Why Distance Learning Education (DLE)?

The first reason is one of convenience.  No driving to class, you wear what ever makes you comfortable in the place you choose.   You determine when is the best time to study, and the length of time and study and your pace.

Why choose us?

We are dedicated to the success of our students, not saying  other schools are not also dedicated, but, the reason we changed from being a referring school with no knowledge or interface with the students, to a secondary course provider is we now can monitor the students progress and interface directly providing additional assistance and instruction when needed.

We offer our DLE students access to our ongoing classroom courses.  Plus the instructor is available to answer questions be either phone or in a separate meeting as his schedule allows to provide students with additional instruction.

The academy's instructor Jim VanErmen is a successful practicing real estate agent with over 16 years of experience and is active in the industry staying current in  trends and changes.

Jim was an active participant in the recent Alabama Real Estate Commission Task Force which examined the National Exam Specification and developed the pre-license course curriculum outline to be used in 2006 by all Alabama Real Estate Schools.

The school administrator, Jon, has successfully taken the DLE pre-license course and is available to provide his own comments on the instructional material and  course procedures.  He is also available to assist in technical computer course problems in the event they were to arise.

Our Primary Course Provider has been certified by ARELLO and they have received ARELLO approval for all the courses which we offer.

Q & A

Q & A
Q.  "What is the success rate of students attending your pre-license course when taking the state/national test?
A.  Alabama Real Estate Commission  "Rules and Regulations"  790-X-1.15. School/Course Sponsors and Instructor Advertising Regulations states:
(h) No reference whatsoever will be made in an newspaper, advertising, brochures, etc. as to pass/fail ratio" by any school/course sponsor or instructor approved by the Alabama Real Estate Commission.  (i) There will be no advertising which guarantees or alludes to a guarantee of passing the state examination."

Q.  "What are the differences between taking the pre-license course in a class room or through an on-line school?"
A.  Other then the obvious differences the classroom course would add the personality of the instructor, i.e. examples which are meaningful to the instructor or the instructor's personal involvement in the industry.  The on-line course gains its strength from repetition and continuous testing.  The Commission is currently assembling statistics on the "success" rate between the two methods of instruction and preliminary results show they are pretty much equal in the percentage of graduates passing the state exam on the first time.

Q.  "Are there differences in the different on-line course?"
A.  Recently a student, Lucy (not her real name) of an on-line course attended the last part of our classroom course.  I was surprised at the number of differences with the on-line course she took and the on-line course which we provide.  Since there are only a few distance learning providers here are a few questions which you should consider before deciding on a distance learning course of instruction.

1.  Will you receive a textbook for the course?  We provide the same textbook which we use in our classroom course.  We also provide an additional study guide to help you prior to taking the state test along with Alabama License Law book (some require you buying this on your own), and the AMP testing guide.  Some schools provide only a download textbook which you have to print and assemble in some type of order i.e. large 3 ring binders.  I was amazed at Lucy's study materials and this alone was reason for me to address some of the differences between the courses from which you can choose.

2.  Is the course "on-line"?  The course Lucy took required her to have her computer linked to the Internet.  If you have dial-up service you no longer have use of your telephone line while you are taking the course.  If the connection fails further problems are encountered.  Our course come on a "cd" which you use with your computer at any time or place and does not have the requirement to be on-line while you are taking the course.

3.  What is the experience of the course administrator?  Who do you call if you have questions or problem?  Our school administrator is a graduate of our distance learning pre-license course and is knowledgeable in the use of computers and the problems which may be encountered.  His expertise has proved invaluable in a number of unforeseen situations.

4.  Who do I call if I need assistance on some things which I do not understand.?  Well in Lucy's case she called me (Jim).  I am a full time real estate agent AND the prelicense classroom course instructor.  Lucy came to me requiring additional instruction.  She attended the classes which were currently being taught, took our final exam to assess her weak areas, attended our preparatory exam study session.  Lucy paid nothing for the additional instruction and study aids which she received.  Long answer to the question but the short answer is I am available to meet, discuss, instruct students on a case by case basis.  Any DLE  students may attend my pre-license classes for which the class scheduled is provided online.   Although this may help in answering course specific questions, the class room course does not fulfill any of the requirements of the on-line course whose requirements must be completed in their entirety.

Q.  "When can I take the Post License Course?"
A.  State law requires you to be a licensed sales agent which means you are required to have a  state assigned License Number.  After obtaining your temporary license you have up to one year to take the course but after just 6 months an active temporary license will be come inactive.  So it is best to take the post license course in your first 6 months.  For additional information on the Post License Course to include the approved class outline along with course goals and objectives and a listing of the course modules, check our Post License Course web page.

Q.  "Will the 30 hour Post License Course take 30 hours?"
A.  No.  The number of "hours" an online course receives is determined by a national evaluating organization.  The Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO),is the approving organization for most DLE real estate courses.  It should be noted students taking the class room course are required to attend 30 hours of class room instruction.  Additional time can be expected in outside reading, studying and preparation work.  The course objectives have been standardized so the Real Estate Commission has a degree of certainty on the material each student is receiving.  The entire post license course is available outline on the post license course web page linked above.
